Forgive me for saying so, but January is, hands down, my least favorite month. Oh sure, it starts off all exciting and full of energy with resolutions and cute new clothes, and hey—you're finally rested up after Winter Break! But then, the month really sets in. The buzz of the holidays is over; you're back in your normal humdrum routine, and… Really? You resolved to do how many things before the month was over?
So what do you do when you find yourself at a standstill and can't figure out how to get back up to the level you reached before good ol' slump time took over? Resolutions can only take you so far, and adrenaline works when there's a deadline, but what to do when everything is normal?
I've found that I get that extra kick by creating a new routine. Last year is over! Maybe you can find a new nook to write in. Maybe you've been craving a new kind of snack or hot drink to get your energy up and start your creativity flowing. Maybe, like Izzie on Grey's Anatomy, it's baking that will do the trick, or maybe like Laura in Bittersweet Sixteen, you need to pull out some fabric and start creating a funky piece of clothing to escape and refocus.
What gets you motivated and energized?
Happy writing!
